Last week I gave you a glimpse at our main living area in our new OC apartment. Today, I’m giving you a look at the rest of the place!
On the same floor as our living room, we have a eat-in kitchen (and a bar area), as well as a deck which is a super nice feature to have! For the kitchen, we were able to salvage a table and chair from CMV’s old family home, however it got a bit damaged in the move. It ended up being an easy fix with a quick trip to Home Depot for some wood glue. To dress up the table, I found these placemats at HomeGoods (4 for $9.99) and a basket ($4.99) in which we keep fresh lemons!
Because we had so many pictures, we put a little gallery on the main kitchen wall. These photos were all in my old Cambridge bedroom and are a mix of vacation photos from our trip to the Bahamas and French postcards I bought on our trip to Paris!
In the corner of kitchen we have a “bar area”. Man, I’m really kicking myself for not keeping the bar cart I DIY’d in Cambridge (although I doubt it would have survived the road trip). I’m thinking of looking for another bar cart or perhaps DIYing again, but right now it’s not a major priority and this fold up table from Walmart (formally my desk) does the job! As you can see from the 3 Buck Chuck, I’m truly a girl on a budget! I did get this little sign that sits above the window by the bar cart from HomeGoods. For $9.99 I thought it was a fun buy and definitely ‘fit’ the space!
We ended up getting the deck furniture at Ikea and it was a pretty great deal (each piece was under $20)! Since our deck is cement, CMV was sold on the idea of the “wood flooring” they were selling in the patio section on Ikea. Because the flooring was much darker than the actual furniture, we decided to stain the furniture with the advice of Home Depot. CMV, finished the staining last weekend and it looks pretty fab! Unfortunately the wood flooring ended up covering a lot less ground than we thought, but, it is what it is! Maybe we will spring for more flooring in the coming months when we’re spending a lot more time out there!
Super nice view eh?
Heading upstairs (we have like, 8 stairs) we have a super short hallway which has a nice picture we stole from CMV’s parents house and ALL our hats…
We then have our little bathroom which isn’t much to write home about – except its a huge step up from my old Cambridge bathroom (aka modern appliances). Because CMV already had navy towels, we went for a navy theme, which is totally cool with me because I really like navy – I mean it’s classic! We didn’t want to spend a lot of money in the bathroom, so we really only bought the shower curtain (from Target) and you know a toothbrush holder etc… And luckily for me, the bathroom has plenty of storage space and drawers for all my primping stuff!
The last room in the place? The bedroom! Thankfully we already had a bed, 2 bureaus (albeit in different types of wood) and the room has 2 big closets (aka a major selling point for the place)! For this room, we focused on creating a nice calm and relaxing space with the use of some simple bedding and a black and white gallery wall above our bed (pictures were all taken by CMV)! We didn’t have bedside tables and since all our furniture was mismatched anyways, we went for these super cheap metal ones from Ikea – which really are not bedside tables at all! At any rate they work, and they’ll be useful whenever we move! We also got our bedding and lamps from Ikea (as I mentioned before, there’s no overhead lighting in our place which is kind of a bummer).
This hutch is a special place in my room – I’ll be sharing more about it next week!
I hope you liked this look into our apartment here in the OC and that I’ve been able to give you some ideas on decorating on a budget!
Thank you so much for stopping in today and have a fabulous weekend!
